EP. 5: Geoff Yaw Talks Cinematic Advertising
How Can Video Production Express Your Brand?
Hosted by Tyler Freeland
“My true north when I’m directing: I need to make sure that the finished product is gonna be the best that it can be. That’s job number one. I have to do what I have to do to get to that.” – Geoff Yaw
On this episode of the Brand X Cleveland Podcast, host, Tyler Freeland and common guest, Charlene Coughlin, sit down with Geoff Yaw, Senior Director and Producer at Think Media Studios. So many cool moments take over this conversation: from Geoff talking about filming music videos as a kid to producing his first feature film King Me. This episode is packed with storytelling. And that storytelling—which you’ll hear—reflects a lot on the culture and focus of Think Media Studios.
“We are very serious about creating original content. We are very serious about telling stories in a way that is as cinematic as they can be.” – Geoff Yaw
Throughout much of the episode, Charlene and Geoff take us on set with the client. Disclaimer: they’ve been working together for a long time, and have been on many sets together, so there were many moments to be shared (for better or worse). Either way, they do a great job at describing what it’s like to be on set, and more importantly how the film perspective (Geoff) and the client perspective (Charlene) work together to create awesome advertising.
“I try very hard to make sure I set a proper tone for a set. And that tone is: We’re gonna get this day done, we’re gonna care a whole lot about what we’re doing, but we’re going to be nice to each other in the process.” – Geoff Yaw
“And you have to have certain snacks (Charlene virtually points to Geoff) to be prepared!” – Charlene Coughlin
Grab some popcorn and a glass of wine (or both), because this episode actually feels like a film. It’s awesome to get to know these two through their work, through their work relationship and their commitment to their craft and clients.
