Season 2 Ep. 1: Scott Himmel Talks Pivoting in the Pandemic.

What’s in a Name Change?

Hosted by Tyler Freeland

“The first thing I wanted to do, was for the project service to be inherently meaningful to me. Secondly, I wanted us to be sure that we could create a product or service that was so special that if it were gone, our guests would truly, truly miss it.”– Scott Himmel

On this episode of the Brand X Cleveland Podcast, host, Tyler Freeland sits down with Scott Himmel, Founder of HarvestOwl, a visionary and the embodiment of the entrepreneurial spirit. During this informative conversation, Scott and Tyler, along with special guest, Mike Ozan, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of TWIST Creative, Inc., discuss a variety of different topics related to product service, restaurant branding, and how Scott and his business were able to successfully pivot during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.

“We focus on running a very scratch-based kitchen while sourcing our ingredients very thoughtfully: The turkey and chicken are antibiotic-free, our hormone-free beef is grass fed. The salmon is wild. It’s all organic. We focus on simple, fresh whole ingredients.” – Scott Himmel

Diving right into the podcast, Scott takes Tyler and Mike on his journey leading up to the creation of HarvestOwl (formally known as LunchOwl): a simple and convenient way for employees to have scratch-made meals delivered to their offices and then stored in their very own HarvestOwl refrigerator, ready to eat. This service provides a healthier lifestyle for employees and improves work performance. But what happened when everyone started working from home?

“Scott is one of the most thoughtful, well-prepared, visionary kind of marketing director that we’ve ever worked with. As you can see, he's really an entrepreneur.” – Mike Ozan

After gaining some insight from My Pandemic PivotMy Pandemic Pivot while utilizing the free DIY pandemic workbook created by TWIST Creative, Inc. as well as using his own business acumen and experience, Scott and his team pivoted their service toward residential buildings—following the customer. The result? HarvestOwl began to thrive once more.

“This year and in 2022, we'll focus on blanketing the city of Cleveland and the Cleveland region with HarvestOwl Refrigerators just really fully penetrating the market. And in 2023, we look forward to expanding into a second market.” – Scott Himmel
